DAY 2 - May Challenge

Hmm, I’m not really sure...this is a difficult one for me. I can think of loads of things I’m not good at! (shopping, sleeping, cleaning, being patient, taking criticism etc) but something I’m good at? Ok here goes...

I’m good at writing reviews and giving feedback on sites, for example TripAdvisor. I’ve travelled pretty extensively, mainly across Europe and as soon as we get home from a holiday, I go onto TripAdvisor and leave a review on the hotel and restaurants we have been too (Good or bad). I do this because I use TripAdvisor a lot when deciding where to go and I hope that my reviews help the next person make a decision.

I am honest and only critical when necessary. I try my best to leave short reviews and always post photographs to show what a place is like. I prefer to write good things about a place I’ve been to rather than bad things, but sometimes that’s not easy. I have left so many reviews on TripAdvisor I am classed as a Senior Contributor and I’m not far off being a Top Contributor. I got an email the other day to let me know that 15,295 readers have read my reviews. In total, I have written 31 reviews and I have 48 helpful votes!

I think in general, a lot of people only write reviews when they have something to complain about. This is the same when it comes to service received from a company. From working in customer services, we used to get so many complaints, often unnecessary. No matter how much you tried to help someone, they would still find something to complain about. I used to get really nasty emails sometimes, it’s unbelievable what some people would write! It was lovely when you did get an e-mail back from a customer saying something like ‘you’ve been really helpful, thank you’ and it’s because of this, I always try to email companies or leave a message on their Facebook site to say thank you if I’ve had a good experience. It makes me feel good too!

  3. I saw your comment over at Misty's and had to visit because I knew anyone who says "bloody" has to have a British connection LOL!!

Great point about people only leaving complaints or negative comments....so true!

Lucky you living in California :)

  4. I'm a big believer in Trip Advisor! I write a lot of reviews on there myself and I'm very grateful for others reviews. So definitely a huge thank you just for reviewing!

  5. Hi! I also like Yelp. You've encouraged me to comment and not just lurk.

    1. I think I've looked at Yelp when trying to find a hair salon to go to. I think most review sites are pretty useful and you can normally tell if the reviews are dodgy. Lurk away!

  6. This is so true! people only get on to say mean things, so I avoid sites like that. I've been to a nail salon for instance for the last 8 years. They are the best service, price, everything. Online, they have the WORST reviews. Guess it means I get the place to myself...

I always wanted to be a top contributer somewhere...

    1. You would expect most places to have some good and bad reviews really, it depends on the person leaving the review and what their expectations are. That nail salon must have someone trying to get them out of business, seems dodgy to me!

  7. I am with you--I like to leave positive feedback, but I am not really very good at giving reviews. I get emails from Amazon a lot asking me to give feedback, but mostly I just delete them. I like your attitude, though. I should probably give feedback since I also use the reviews to make a decision.

    1. Do it next time on amazon! I have to admit I am probably more biased to leaving tripadvisor reviews over items I've bought online but I will start doing it now.

  8. that's so true. I get a lot of emails complaining in my job but I also get some lovely thank you emails, which I send around the office to make us all feel better!

Maybe I should start leaving amazon reviews too!

  9. I wish I left more positive reviews because it is always nice when you receive positive feedback. My hubby works in complaints & statistics so he ALWAYS leaves comments and ALWAYS fills in feedback forms!
