DAY 18 - May Challenge

I remember clearly one Christmas at my nana's house in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I must have been about 9 years old. It was Christmas Eve and I was excited about Santa and his reindeers visiting in the night and all the presents he would bring me.

With the help of my nana, I went to get a carrot for Rudolph and a glass of Whisky for Santa. The carrot had a strange black mark on it but we knew Rudolph wasn't fussy. So we left them by the fireplace and off I went to bed.

The next day, I had loads of presents and spent the morning opening them. Afterwards, I went to help my nana get the Christmas dinner ready and on getting the carrots out, I saw one exactly the same as the one we had left for Rudolph, with the same black mark. I was confused, I remember saying, "didn't we leave this carrot out for Rudolph?"

It was then that they told me about Santa.......you know the one.....I was devastated!

I asked about what happened to the Whiskey, I think my dad drank it.

Christmas has never been the same since.

Do you remember when you found out?

I did some more artwork yesterday for the Caitlin book I've been working on, here are a few bits I'm really happy with:

  3. I don't remember... I do remember my son being afraid of Santa. He felt like Santa was an intruder in our home. Santa and I had to "meet at the bank" to get the goods. I was happy when the neighbor boy told him the truth.

  4. I have been away with major dental work so haven't been doing a lot of reading. Now it's time to catch up. I was six when I figured out who Santa was. I heard typing on Christmas Eve and got a typed note from Santa. Very disappointed. I finally had to tell my grandson when he was 11 years old. He is still mad at me at almost 13. However, now he is part of the secret and takes delight in keeping the secret safe from the smaller children in his life.

  5. I know exactly what you mean. A mean lady from our church told me at age 7 and I was heart broken. I kept telling my parents, "You mean you LIED to me?" My mom finally found this book {I think it's called} "Santa, Are You for Real?" It was a great book that told about the Christian meaning of the season and what Santa represented. I'm pretty sure the book was lost in Hurricane Katrina, but I've often thought of replacing it to read to my own girls one day. Also, I LOVE your illustrations! These would make the cutest art for a little girl's room.

    1. I guess it's once of those things, like the tooth fairy that keeps you innocent...I remember finding my mum putting money under my pillow for the tooth fairy, that's how I knew that wasn't real.
