F = Fossil

Fossil is my favourite brand and I have a little bit of an obsession with their watch tins, which I first discovered when I was a design student. I also have a few bags, purses and watches.

The tins are what I like most about Fossil though. They are sooo gorgeous I have started to collect them. My dream job would be to design tins for Fossil (If any Fossil people are reading, please give me a job!). I would design something simple like this:

I got my first Fossil tin when I was in LA a couple of years ago. I asked the shop assistant if I could buy a tin and he said I could pick one without making a purchase. I was so excited! I pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I went onto buy my first Fossil watch in San Francisco just so I could have another tin. My friend then gave me one she had and didn’t want, and I blagged another one at christmas from the London store. I got a new Fossil watch for my birthday recently so I got my 5th tin.

Here is my new Fossil watch and my 5 beautiful tins, lined up, on display in my living room:

You may think me a little sad for getting so excited about what is basically just a tin? but I just love the designs and how they are all sooo different. It’s not as sad as say train-spotting or stamp collecting is it? (I actually quite like some stamp designs too!). In the Fossil stores, they have them lined up on display too, I took a photo in the London shop:

Don’t you agree they look beautiful?

If you have any Fossil tins you don’t want, please let me know.....

Do you have any weird and wonderful collections or obsessions?

  2. Well those are adorable, and match your style so well! I love your sketch too. I would love to have something like that on a card. If you sold specialty cards and I had just a little more money, I would buy them!

    1. Thanks Kristen, I may try and motivate myself to set up on Etsy.com and sell prints, cards and artwork.

  3. I have a collection of Arnott's Biscuits tins that I compiled when I worked for them in Australia. I do have to say that I quite enjoy hunting for fossils--the ancient kind :-)

    1. Hi Amy, I've just checked out Arnotts Biscuits tins, they are lovely...I guess Fossil tins are a vintage modern version of the old cool tins.

    1. Ha Ha, yeah the tins are pretty useable, my friend kept her jewellery in the tin, before she gave it to me that is. What kind of stuff do you collect KT?

  6. Can you pitch your design ideas to Fossil? Maybe they are open to freelance designers? I hope one day you get your dream job there.

    1. Hey, I have emailed them before about it, I don't think they freelance, they have a team of designers in Texas or somewhere like that. I might try again though or see if they have a competition to design a tin.

  7. The tins are pretty. It would be cool to have a whole display of them like in the store in London.

I don't collect anything weird, just beads. ;)

    1. A bead collection is quite cool, and small so easy to contain!

    2. LOL, not quite as small as you would think. It's taking over my bedroom.

  10. I think that tins have an appeal all by themselves. I have several, some very old and some newer that I will not part with. As packaging, they have pretty much disappeared which only seems to make them more valuable. Keep collecting.

    1. I agree, old tins especially have a certain quality that you don't really get anymore.

  11. I want them!!! I am a sucker for nice packaging.

    1. Go find a Fossil shop (there must be one in Ireland?) and try and blag a free tin...or buy a watch? they are quite reasonable priced and look nice too!

  12. An ex-boyfriend bought me my first Fossil watch for my 18th birthday and although I don't own the watch any more (it was stolen) I still have the tin - I keep my everyday costume-y earrings in it. They do make some really pretty tins! xx
