Y= Yesterday

Yesterday was Sunday, a day to relax...or so I thought. Rich suggested going to the beach so we drove towards Laguna Beach and he said he wanted to go to Thousand Steps Beach, which from the name rang alarm bells straightaway (Despite the name, there are only approx 220 steps). Anyway, we parked up and walked over towards the entrance and I saw the steep narrow steps. I had on beach flip flops (seeing as I thought we were going to the beach) and wished I was wearing my trainers.

People were coming up the steps huffing and puffing, someone started doing press ups right in front of us and they were talking about going back down and up the steps again (fitness freak alert!). There seemed to be quite a few people using the steps for exercise, including one guy walking up and down with a big bolder above his head (weird?). Anyway, after a careful trek down, we got to the beach and it was very nice, but it was a little cloudy whereas it had been bright blue skies and sunshine 10 minutes away back in Irvine. We sat down anyway and read for a little while and I took a few photographs.

I knew going back up the steps would be an issue for me (I’m not the fittest person in the world) so I took it slowly. Rich however went up really quickly and reached the top way before me. I guess that’s love for you! My legs were really shaky at the top and hurt today.

My artwork today is called ‘On The Beach’:

What did you do yesterday?

  1. We used to actually go diving from that beach. Imagine wearing and carrying that equipment up and down those stairs. Hard Hard Hard! You made it though!

    1. Wow, I don't know how you managed it! I made hubby carry my beach bag...I am glad I have done it though.

  2. Sounds like a nice time =). Except for the stairs portion...kind of ruins the relaxing portion, but still looks worth it. Very beautiful pictures =).

    1. It was lovely, just wish it had been sunshine like it was when we left home.

  3. I did a little bit of beading yesterday.

220 is a lot of steps! I don't know if I'd make it without a rest in the middle.

    1. I did have a rest, just for a minute. Think I would have collapsed if not!

  4. It sounds like you had a nice time :-) I sang in the choir and then swam in the pool in the afternoon. It was a lovely day. Thanks for mentioning my blog on your sidebar! I'll have to figure out how to do than when I get home from Scotland!

    1. That sounds like a lovely day...what are you doing in Scotland? My side bar shows all my favourite blogs that I try and comment on regularly, you can add it through the layout blogger section and add blogs you want. :)

  6. I feel your pain, I hate steps - I have talipes in my right foot, which means I have no ankle joint to speak of and steps are guaranteed to remind me of it. Still, they are very good exercise ;).

Yesterday, I was leading a hand bell ringing group - we did rather well with 'Scarborough Fair', but 'Summer is a-cumin In' didn't work out (I couldn't actually make out the tune!) ;P

    1. Talipes sounds painful! my only excuse is that I am unfit and lazy, although I did start back at the gym this week though :)....hand bell ringing sounds very challenge, I know the tune for Scarborough Fair but not the other one.

  7. Seems like you enjoyed, except for the stairs. And good shots. I always love going to beaches. It's my ME time with the sea. :)

Yesterday was a working day for me....(Residing in Middle East, so hence it's the first working week for me)... but I was fooling around. :)

    1. Hi Me, it was nice, just hard work on those stairs and I prefer a bit of sunshine by the beach. I love swimming in the sea! Boo to work for you :)

  8. I can imagine how those 220 steps seem like 1000 on the backward journey. But you had a great time - right? So that's all that matters. I miss California.

One more day to go; I'll miss the camaraderie of A - Z. Stop by MROP any time you wish.

    1. Yes they did! To be honest I was probably more unstable going down, with them being so steep but it was hard work going back up. I'll pop by to visit you soon!

  9. You won't believe what we did! The other day some ladies were banging on our neighbors door. So my husband told them because he'd seen them before that he wasn't home. Well, apparently they (the woman and the neighbor) had some sort of rift and after my husband came back into the house, they broke in and stole some things. So yesterday we had to go make a statement to the magistrate so they could be arrested! Not your typical Sunday at the beach!! I like you're day much better..steps and all :)

    1. Wow! That's terrible and a shame you had to use your weekend to make a statement. I feel bad for moaning about the steps now :)

  10. You will never see me at that beach. Although I do the step at Oceanside (and that's quite enough), I can't see doing any steps for fun. Maybe it has to do with the bad knees. The pictures are great. It's still April so the beach may or may not clear. What's funny is that sometimes it is overcast here but not at the beach. That's when we like to go because everyone else assumes that it's cloudy at the beach too.

    1. It's weird how the weather is beautiful in some areas here then 10 mins down the road it's cloudy. It didn't take long for me to be back in the sunshine. I don't think it will be doing those steps again anytime soon!

  11. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. We live close to the beach, but haven't been in while. I remember as a kid spending all day there. My family would have yearly family beach party at the beach, too. It was so much fun!

    1. I love picnics on the beach and swimming in the sea. A full day with all that sand can get a bit much sometimes, it gets everywhere!

  13. You photos are so pretty, and your artwork is so cute. Was it worth it? I actually love the look of steps, but I'm not so excited about running up them for exercise, haha!

    1. Thanks Kristen. I joined Instagram recently so the photos are done using this. I have done worse steps before, in santorini from the sea off a boat trip we had to climb 588 steps to get to the top in Oia, I nearly died!
